NDIS Information
Disabled Australians under age 65 can now apply for the National Disability and Insurance Scheme (NDIS). It’s for those who have a permanent and significant disability. It serves to help them with funding for support and services to live their best lives.
The purpose of the NDIS is to inform, connect and support people with a disability. So their skills and independence improve over time. Disabilities include people with intellectual, physical, sensory, cognitive and psycho-social issues.
We offer a wide range of supports. These include:
- help you reach your goals
- support with daily life activities
- growing lifeskills
- have access to community connections (such as schools, doctors, libraries or social activities).
Education, employment, social participation, independence health and wellbeing supports and services can be covered by your NDIS funding. As long as:
- they relate to your disability
- help you pursue your goals
- increase your independence
- and increase your connection to our community.
It can also have a direct or indirect benefit to your family or carer – such as counselling or respite help.
To find out if you are eligible for the NDIS, use this checklist via the NDIS website: https://www.ndis.gov.au/applying-access-ndis/am-i-eligible
If you are eligble, according the NDIS Checklist (https://www.ndis.gov.au/applying-access-ndis/am-i-eligible) you will need to call 1800 800 110 and ask to make an Access Request. You will be required to fill in a form. This may require information from third parties – such as your doctor – to discover how your disability affects your day-to-day life.
There are also Local Area Co-ordinators who can give you advice and assistance.
